Boac, Marinduque, Philippines — Marinduque State University (MarSU) marked another milestone in advancing disaster resilience and digital innovation with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing between MarSU and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Office MIMAROPA, held at the MarSU Administration Lounge on September 8, 2026.
The event also featured the relaunch of the Campus Check Application, a flagship digital initiative for campus safety and monitoring. The program opened with Atty. Jandusay delivering welcome remarks that underscored MarSU’s commitment to proactive disaster risk reduction. This was followed by a Message of Commitment from Regional Director Arnulfo C. Matanguihan of OCD MIMAROPA represented by Mr. Jommel M. Merano, Chief, Rehabilitation & Recovery Management Section, highlighting the importance of institutional partnerships in building safer, more resilient communities.
Additionally, University President, Prof. Diosdado P. Zulueta also shared a message reinforcing the academic sector’s role in disaster preparedness and knowledge management. After the President’s message, PDRRMO Director Juan R. Fernandez delivered the message of Governor Hon. Melecio J. Go, expressing the provincial government’s support for MarSU’s disaster risk reduction initiatives and its commitment to strengthening resilience across Marinduque.
The MOU signing formally inked areas of cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, disaster rehabilitation and recovery, capacity building and training, research and knowledge management.
The partnership was further strengthened by the Campus Check App Orientation led by Ms. Joy Juson of the Information and Digital Systems Division, which showcased how technology can enhance monitoring, communication, and safety protocols across the university.
In her closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Lenie Zulueta commended the Disaster Risk Reduction Office and partner units such as ICT, GSO, PMU, and HSO among others, for their dedication to advancing MarSU’s disaster risk reduction initiatives. She expressed gratitude to OCD MIMAROPA for their steadfast support and reaffirmed MarSU’s role as a hub of resilience and innovation in the province.
University officials, DRR coordinators, staff, Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers, and Sentro Publication attended the activity, underscoring the collaborative spirit and shared commitment to disaster preparedness and community safety.
