Boac, Marinduque, Philippines — Marinduque State University (MarSU) launched the “Binhi ng Kalikasan: Coastal Clean-up and Environmental Stewardship Initiative” on September 7, 2026 at the MarSU Lounge, in partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Marinduque and Rotary Club Marinduque Premier.
The two-day initiative began with an environmental seminar attended by university personnel and student volunteers which was organized by Ms. Alchona Wayne M. Labaguis, Presidential Assistant for Special Projects and Advocacy Programs.
MarSU President Prof. Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta underscored the university’s commitment to environmental protection, calling on the MarSU community to take an active role in keeping the environment clean and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on environmental protection.
Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Kenneth P. Macasieb of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) discussed the role of the Marine Environmental Protection Command (MEPCOM) in protecting the country’s marine environment, preventing pollution, and responding to oil spills, while also highlighting Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, and its provisions on proper waste segregation, responsible waste disposal, and collective environmental protection.
The initiative continued on September 8, 2026, with a coastal cleanup operation in Pili, Boac, Marinduque, involving the Office of the President, faculty members, student volunteers, PCG Marinduque, and Rotary Club Marinduque Premier.
