Torrijos, Marinduque, Philippines — The Marinduque State University Extension Unit, through the Markaduke Research and Development Center (MRDC), conducted a two-day training on native pig production and management on July 24–25, 2026, at the Community Outreach Center (COC), Torrijos Campus.

On the first day, Ms. Marife Madla of the College of Business Administration (CBA) discussed financial literacy and record-keeping, while Ms. Christine R. Camero, LGU Torrijos’ Agricultural Technologist, presented biosecurity protocols for backyard native pig raising.

The second day featured a hands-on demonstration on forage-based feed formulation and processing led by MRDC Chief Mr. Harvey A. Dulay, together with Cherry Rose Robles, Henry Laurente, Sir Nicole Postrado, and Janice Cruzado.

The activity was attended by 25 participants—15 men and 10 women—from the Kapatirang Marinduqueño Poctoy Agricultural Cooperative (MPAC). Other attendees are members of the tricycle drivers’ and operators’ associations, and fisherfolk associations, who are recipients of the STAARRDEC’s AANR Bayanihan: Community Pantries and Quick Response Extension Project (QREP) Initiative. Their participation in the training formed part of the livelihood package they received in May 2026.

The beneficiaries also received breeder stocks and forage planting materials. They signed agreements with MarSU to promote responsible livestock management and ensure the sustainability of the dispersal program.

The training is a deliverable of the project “Revitalizing Native Pig Raising through Forage-Based Feeds Production and Processing Technology,” led by Dr. Doreen R. Mascarenas and funded by DOST-PCAARRD-TTPD.
