Torrijos, Marinduque, Philippines — Marinduque State University–Torrijos Campus proudly marks another milestone in its commitment to sustainable agriculture with the successful Blessing and Turnover Ceremony of the Wood Vinegar Facility, funded by the Department of Agriculture (DA), held on July 21, 2026, at Brgy. Poctoy, Torrijos, Marinduque.

The ceremony commenced with the blessing of the facility, officiated by Rev. Fr. Saturnino Rioveros, signifying the official opening of a facility that will serve as a center for promoting sustainable, eco-friendly, and science-based agricultural technologies.

The turnover of the facility was led by Mr. Michael Graciano R. Iledan, Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Person of the Department of Agriculture. The event was graced by distinguished officials, including Ms. Susana A. Uy, R. Agr., MPA, OIC–Provincial Agriculturist of the Provincial Agriculture Office; Hon. Joey P. Peñaflor, Municipal Mayor of Torrijos; Ms. Lucila J. Vasquez, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer of Marinduque; and officials and employees of Marinduque State University–Torrijos Campus headed by Dr. Andy L. Soberano, Campus Director. Also present were Mr. Harvey A. Dulay, Research and Extension Coordinator of the College of Agriculture, together with faculty members and non-teaching personnel of the campus.

The establishment of the Wood Vinegar Facility strengthens the University’s role in advancing research, extension, and technology demonstration by promoting the production and utilization of wood vinegar as an environmentally friendly agricultural input. This initiative is expected to contribute to improved soil health, enhanced crop productivity, reduced dependence on synthetic agricultural chemicals, and the wider adoption of organic and climate-resilient farming practices across Marinduque.

More than an infrastructure project, this facility symbolizes the strong partnership among the Department of Agriculture, Provincial Agriculture Office, Local Government Unit of Torrijos, and Marinduque State University in empowering farming communities through innovation, research, and sustainable agricultural development.
