About Us

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training (OVPRET) of Marinduque State University (MarSU) serves as the primary administrative and academic support office responsible for advancing the University’s research, extension, innovation, technology transfer, publication, and capability-building initiatives. The Office plays a vital role in strengthening the University’s culture of inquiry, knowledge generation, community engagement, and sustainable development in support of national priorities and institutional goals.

Guided by the University’s vision, mission, and strategic development agenda, the Office oversees the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of research, extension, training, innovation, and knowledge management programs across all campuses and academic units of the University. It promotes collaborative, responsive, and impact-driven initiatives that contribute to academic excellence, community empowerment, policy development, and socio-economic advancement.

The Office supervises the Research Unit, which facilitates the development and management of research programs, research capability-building activities, research ethics compliance, publication support, and externally funded research initiatives that strengthen the University’s research productivity and scholarly engagement. It also assists in organizing research proposals, administering research projects, and ensuring that institutional research initiatives remain relevant, sustainable, and responsive to societal and developmental needs.

Under the Office is the Extension Unit, which implements community extension programs, outreach services, training activities, and partnership initiatives that address the needs of communities and stakeholders while promoting inclusive growth, social responsibility, and sustainable development. The Unit likewise coordinates extension proposals, extension-related administrative functions, and implementation of extension projects and services aligned with the University’s mandate and community development goals.

The Publications Office supports the organization, consolidation, dissemination, and publication of scholarly works, institutional journals, research outputs, and knowledge products of the University. It facilitates editorial and publication processes that strengthen academic visibility, research communication, and scholarly excellence while promoting quality publication standards within the institution.

The Office also oversees the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office, which facilitates the promotion, utilization, commercialization, licensing, and transfer of technologies, innovations, research outputs, and intellectual property assets developed by the University. It assists in intellectual property protection, patent-related initiatives, and technology commercialization activities while strengthening linkages and collaborative partnerships with industries, agencies, and communities to maximize the societal impact of institutional innovations and technologies.

Complementing these functions is the Innovation and Technology Support Office, which provides technical and innovation support services that encourage creativity, entrepreneurship, technology development, and innovation-driven initiatives among faculty members, researchers, students, and stakeholders. The Office supports innovation ecosystems, capability-building activities, and technology-based programs that contribute to institutional competitiveness and sustainable development.

Anchored on its thrust for innovation, collaboration, research excellence, extension responsiveness, advancement of knowledge, technology transfer, and empowerment, the Office continuously promotes quality research culture, transformative extension services, responsive innovation systems, and meaningful community engagement initiatives.

Committed to excellence, innovation, collaboration, and public service, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training continues to strengthen MarSU’s role as a responsive higher education institution dedicated to transformative research, meaningful extension services, sustainable innovation, and community-centered development.
