Boac, Marinduque, Philippines — The MarSU-Records Management Unit conducted a Seminar-Workshop on Basic Records and Archives Management on April 29, 2026, at the New Administration Building Lounge.
The activity was attended by Records Custodians and Secretaries from various colleges and offices of the University. The seminar aimed to familiarize the participants with the fundamental principles and salient provisions of Republic Act No. 9470, otherwise known as the National Archives of the Philippines Act of 2007.
The program was graced by Ms. Erma E. Reyes, Acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Supervising Administrative Officer, who delivered the welcome remarks. In her message, she emphasized the crucial role of Records Custodians in the day-to-day operations of their respective units. She further underscored the importance of accountability, transparency, and confidentiality in the proper handling and management of records.
During the activity, Ms. Kimberly V. Jarabilo, Administrative Officer I, presented the salient provisions of RA 9470 and highlighted the agency requirements mandated by the law. Meanwhile, Ms. Jennifer L. Tavas, Administrative Aide, discussed key records management concepts, emphasizing the essential attributes of records and their significance to organizational efficiency, reliability, and integrity.
Furthermore, Mr. Nowell P. Maac, Administrative Officer V, discussed the Records and Archives Management Program. He highlighted the importance of records as the institutional memory of business transactions, serving as vital evidence and reliable references for decision-making and accountability. He also presented the guidelines and procedures for the proper disposal of valueless records, as well as the policies and practices on records archiving and preservation.
The activity reinforced the principle that records management is a shared responsibility. Records Custodians, along with all employees, are expected to exercise diligence, accountability, and professionalism in the proper handling, maintenance, and safeguarding of records.
